In the older demo, the diary screen size is the same as in the vanilla game. In the more recent demo, the entries of Octavius' diary are displayed in a windows which takes up nearly all of the screen: The earlier demo still says The Settlers II - Veni, Vidi, Vici on the main menu screen (like in the vanilla game demo): It appears that the more recent demo is the one which was available from BB FTP ( s2gold.exe), but without the DOS installer part. The executable size is 1,925,234 bytes and the date stamp is Mar 11, 1997. The second is this one (actually I found it here in packed form).

The executable size 1,930,354 bytes is and the date stamp is the internal date displayed in-game is Dec 20, 1996: The first one is this one (here is what appears to be the original ZIP archive: s2gdemo.zip). There is only one other source for the autorun in the catalog, which is Screenfun 10/02 and that CD had the full version of Settlers 2 Gold in German. The demo contained on my BBN III/97 CD is the 0.16 demo without the autorun.

I would assume that the 1997 Blue Byte News CDs were numbered quarterly or even in 4-month steps (or in irregular steps). The Blue Byte Buch is from an austrian friend of mien who recently got some books for scanning (iirc) and sent me an iamge of the CD after I asked him if he has it. I'm not sure where I got that CD, but I think it was from that Bomico busines guy a while ago. However I happen to own a Blue Byte News CD (There are also Blue Byte News brochures, which I sadly do not own).

That was a book about Blue Byte and their current titles plus an unoffiicial CD. It should be the updated version already, and as the CD was intended for German subscribers it is plausible that the demo was in German.ДЄctually the Blue Byte Buch is something different. Or maybe the zipped v0.16 was still created by a third party who got the official CD version.Д«TW, the Blue Byte-News CD date Sep '96 supposedly contains a demo of The Settlers II. on their CDs alongside a smaller downloadable version.
